An update (08.19.08): Indy's doing great! We are now 1 year old and having a blast! We took a week's vacation up to Massachusetts and saw the ocean for the first time this past May. Indy did fabulous with my nieces and nephews (all 7 of them!); he let them climb all over him and play fetch and have tea parties! They dressed him up and everything; I only wish I had my camera he had so much fun! My dad, who is not personally a fan of dogs, but loves Cesar Millan, even complimented me on Indy's behavior and disposition. He even took Indy for walks!! Unfortunately, Briggs' broke his toe and was not brought up north because of it. Briggs will have to wait until next time. Now that his toe has healed, he goes to playcare at work with me everyday and plays with Indy and all the other dogs. Indy's confidence with other dogs has tripled since I adopted him. He absolutely loves meeting new friends and has not been put out in time out once! He tends to play rough with his certain few friends, and once in a while comes home with a few scratches here and there, but never anything requiring vet attention. We also found out that we LOVE water, but hate baths! We have kiddie pools at work, and he lies in them all day and splashes around. He loves all my coworkers, as well, and vice versa. Which is great considering he will be spending his Labor Day vacation at the facility, where he can play everyday. On the weekends, we go for long nature walks along the McMullan Greenery or on trails at Renaissance Park. We've been meaning to check out the White Water Rafting Center trails, but that's more of a day trip than a couple hours trail hike. We look forward to hopefully seeing everyone at an adoption event soon. We've been checking the site occasionally, so we'll hopefully see you soon. Here's some pictures in the meantime. Hope all is well, Janelle, Indy, and Briggs 04.05.08: An Update from Janelle: Hello, everyone at Crossroads! This is Indy and Janelle giving you an update. Indy did great with his neuter/gastropexy/microchipping last November. He got a wonderful surprise when he returned home to a new little brother, Briggs. Briggs is a 7-8 month old Dutch shepherd mix that I rescued from Animal Medical Hospital from being euthanized due to his owners inability to afford treatment for his parvo-like virus. After a shaky introduction, Briggs soon warmed up to Indy, and now they are inseparable! Briggs' neuter/gastropexy/microchipping soon followed much to Indy's dismay (he was very lonely that night, and moped around the house missing his brother). Indy has become a very good boy and older brother/mentor for his brother; Briggs follows Indy where ever he goes and Indy helps Briggs meet new friends because Briggs is very shy. Although Indy has calmed since Briggs arrived, he still remains to be the very affectionate and food-motivated puppy I adopted. Both love to go for runs with me; however, due to a broken toe, Briggs will have to hold off on walks for a while. We go to the park, to volleyball games, and out to eat on outside patios meeting new people and puppy friends. We're getting ready to celebrate Indy's first birthday, and we can't wait! Hoping all is well, we hope to find time to come and visit at a fundraiser or showing soon! Sincerely, Indy, Briggs and Janelle Hello, everyone from Crossroads! This is Indy's owner giving you an update on how things are going. Everything is wonderful; Indy has fit in with everyone here at home. So far, Indy has mastered sit, down, stay, and come commands through clicker training. He also listens very well to the word "no." We will be starting fun, goofy tricks to show off after we have perfected our other commands. He's great on a leash still and enjoys our walks; we've also taken many trips to the park where we're still learning to return the ball when we play fetch! We get along with the cat and sugar glider very well, but he becomes impatient when they don't want to play with him!!! We will be scheduling his neuter, gastroplexy, and microchipping in November. Hopefully everything goes ok with that. We've been to the vet to get a physical done, and while we were there, we went ahead and updated his vaccinations, which is completely safe. We'll keep you updating and hopefully stop by to see you soon!!! Until then, take care! Sincerely, Janelle and Indy |
