December 17, 2007 News... We all had so much fun at the Christmas events at Morrison and there was good turnout. It's evident that the holidays are here... especially at Morrison, South Park where Santa Paws, a Christmas/canine event is being held during the first four Saturdays of December! Crossroads will be attending 12/01 and 12/15 and the event runs from 1-4pm. Morrison is at the corner of Sharon and Colony roads in South Park. Many, many thanks to Chris and the entire staff there for hosting the event and all their wonderful help. They've invited back again next spring and fall and we'll certainly by working to get those events on 2008's schedule! Updates... Carolinas Veterinary Clinic has a rapidly growing client base, so much so that they've run out of room at their clinic on Baxter Street and so are opening a BRAND NEW clinic on Feld Farm Lane! October 24, 2007 News... Congratulations and many, many thanks to Samantha and Darin, who tied the knot on October 21st. Both are animal lovers and rescue advocates so for their wedding, in lieu of gifts, they asked that their guests donate any amount to Crossroads to support rescue efforts. The result was over $800 received by the Crossroads members who attended. These proceeds will go towards our main Vet Care Fund. Again, our thanks to Samantha and Darin and to all the guests who attended, for their generosity and support of Crossroads! Updates... Adoptable Dogs Upcoming... Next event will be at Moosehead Bar & Grill! We're going to be serving up mugs of draft beer for $1 a pull on Saturday, November 3rd from 2:00-7:00. The proceeds will go towards our Veterinary Care Fund, 20% being set aside into The Raleigh Fund which we use to treat dogs with heartworms and other special medical cases. Last year was a whole lot of fun; we met so many awesome people who were supporters of rescue and heard a lot of great stories. September 06, 2007 Upcoming... We're going to be having this weekend's adoption event at PetsMart store #1509 on Rivergate Parkway (or just off of S. Tryon, see map). It will be on Saturday the 8th from 11:00am 'til 4:00pm or 4:30pm. Present will be Minne, Sota, Indy, Raya and Luna. Stop by and see us! August 26, 2007 News... Clementine is now F2A status and that has been going very well. The adoption is scheduled to be finalized today! Lily is also currently F2A status and we've heard that's also going very well. The adoption will hopefully be finalized sometime this week. We've acquired a new dog, Indy! Photos and info on him coming soon! There was no adoption event this past weekend, as a last minute board meeting was instead scheduled to reassign board duties and positions due to the resignation of the VPAO and Secretary/Treasurer. The group has a new Treasurer, Jess Dixon-Ramakrishna, who has been a foster member of the group since shortly after Crossroads began in '06. Congrats, Jess and welcome to the board! VPAO has been reassigned to Sharon Puett and longtime Board Member at Large Mike Gil has now taken on the position of Equipment Manager. Updates... Tolliver is in F2A with his new potential family and things are going very well! We have some new foster parents, Kristy and Jason Bochniak, who adopted Oscar (now Maestro) back in '06! We will be holding our regular adoption event at the Harris Teeter on Matthews Township Pkwy. (Matthews Festival Shopping Center) tomorrow (28th). We will be there from 11:30 'til 4:30 or as weather permits. We've got lots of great new magnets and lots of great dogs (Clementine, Lillie, Minne, Sota, Lance, Gustav) and some adorable kittens too, so come and see us! July 10, 2007 News... Lacey has been adopted! Thank you, Ms. Morgan for giving her a wonderful forever home! Congratulations to Jess (Lacey's foster mom) and Samir, who got married at the end of June! On a sad note, though, with Lacey having been adopted, Jess will be withdrawing from the group as a foster for the time being, due to time and travel restraints. She still plans to help out with events when she can. Thanks to both Jess and Samir for all the wonderful care they provided for Lacey! Congratulations to Charlotte on her new job! Gustav went up to Belews Creek this past Sunday to stay in F2A with his potential adoptive family. We've have two newcomers: Minne and Sota. They're Golden mix sisters who came from CharMeck. June 15, 2007 News... We have a new dog in the group: Tolliver! He's a 7mo. male Briard mix. Check him out under Adoptables! If you want to meet 'n greet, come to our event tomorrow (see below)! Lacey is currently in Foster2Adopt and doing well. We will not be having an event two weeks from now as it is too close to Independence Day. The calendar has been updated to reflect this. Just an update to the "Dog with the Dogs" event announced below: We will not be doing the hot dog stand this weekend due to a few last minute changes in our volunteer count. We'll still be at PetsMart with all the dogs and our whole tent setup. Come see us! May 29, 2007 News... We had so much fun at the "Dog with the Dogs" event at Harris Teeter on the 19th! The weather was so nice and there was tons of traffic. Dozens of people stopped by to grab a dog (or two, or three, or four...!) chips and drink. We had so many generous folks donating that day; we lost count of how many times people were handing us fives, tens, twenties (and even a fifty!) and saying, "Keep the change, keep the change." Thanks to all of you who care about animal rescue and supported our cause, we raised over $700 to be dispensed into our Veterinary Care Fund and The Raleigh Fund. Again, a HUGE THANK YOU! A very pleasant time was had by all. Special thanks to: Harris Teeter #157 - They allowed us to use their Parcel Pick-Up Area for our hot dog tent and put up signs in the store and use their parking lot and medians. They donated boxes of doggie treats for our adopters and the staff and management were immensely kind and helpful during the entire event. Thank you! Coca-Cola - They donated numerous cases of canned drinks for us to sell. Thank you! Frito Lay - They donated multiple boxes of Frito Lay variety chips for us to include with our hot dog combos! Thank you! BJ's Wholesale Club #140 Rick Sarsfield, General Manager of the club donated the hot dog buns and condiments we needed. Thank you! Come and visit and grab some food! April 12, 2007 News... Bark in the Park was a ton of fun in the sun and very successful for our group. From sales of magnets, raffle tickets and other merchandise and from donations, we raised over $600 to be put into our Veterinary Care and Raleigh Funds. An ENORMOUS THANK YOU to everyone who attended the event and stopped by our booth to talk, share stories, donate, grab a magnet or sign up for the raffle. We met a lot of great people and dogs and had a blast. We're already looking forward to the Bark in the Park event next year! Congratulations to Yona and Cynthia, winners from our Bark in the Park Raffle. Each received a gorgeous doggie frame. ARF Day was also fun. It was great to get some extra exposure out in the Concord area and we raised some money, too! Thanks to all who visited us at this event. A special thanks to the event coordinator, Toolie. Clementine has finally completed her heartworm treatment and is now available for adoption. She did incredibly well and only needs a follow-up heartworm test in one month to confirm the absence of heartworms in her system. Check Clem out on the 'Adoptable Dogs' page! Jack has gone to his forever home in Mocksville with the Karlek family and now has a new sister, Murphy! Congrats Jack and many thanks to the Karleks for giving him a wonderful new home! We talked to a lot of great people at PetsMart on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who stopped by! Acknowledgements, Adoptable Dogs. Upcoming... Our next two events are going to be multi-group: Bark in the Park, which is being held at the William R. Davie park on Hwy. 51 this year. It will be on Saturday, April 28th and will run from 10:00am - 4:00pm. This will be a PR, fundraising and education event more than an adoption event for us. We may or may not be bringing one small dog to represent all of the adoptable dogs in the group, but will have some of form of display with pictures and info on all of them and will definitely be accepting applications. Last year, the weather forced us to pack and go home early, missing all the festivities when the sun came out shortly after, but we're planning and hoping big this year. It's going to be a great event and a very fun day, so don't miss it! The following weekend, May 5th from 11:00am - 3:00pm, we'll be attending ARF Day, which will be held at Concord Mills Mall (directions). It will be in store #518 (Dollar Store) just inside Entrance #5 (across from the Burlington Coat Factory). This will also be less of an adoption event and more about education and fundraising. We hope to have presentations for adoptable and adopted dogs and will be taking applications. Crossroads attended this event last year and it was tons of fun, so we are really looking forward to ARF Day 2007 and hope you can come! April 12, 2007 News... We received another donation towards Clementine's HW treatment from some wonderful folks from the CharMeck shelter, Michael Pawlyk and Elizabeth Richardson! They are constant supporters, both financially and at the shelter, keeping us informed about the goings on there. Thank you Michael and Liz! Also a BIG thank you to Nikki and Jack Vickrey, our #1 financial supporters, making monthly donations. There aren't enough good things to be said about these folks, who are rescuers themselves, many times over. Clementine has received her first heartworm treatment and is doing very well, just taking it easy at foster mom's house out in the country. We've pulled two new dogs from CharMeck: Clementine, a Bassett Hound mix and Lacey, a little Chihuahua mix! Clementine is low heartworm positive and will begin undergoing treatment for that in two weeks (allowing time for to heal after her spay). We have a new/returning foster member, Jess, who fostered for Crossroads for a short time back in early '06 and then had to take a leave of absence due to a move. Now she's ready to go again and is fostering Lacey. Welcome back, Jess! We received a recent donation from Trina, who volunteers with the CharMeck shelter and is a wonderful advocate both to Crossroads and rescue in general. In his "golden years", he may not be able to save the world from terrorists in a single day, but this easy-going guy will make someone a wonderful companion. A follow-up will be made after a week to determine whether or not he will be officially adopted. Gustav the Rottweiler is going to meet a potential adoptive family this weekend to see if they would like to begin the Foster2Adopt period. Griffin the GSD has gone back to boot camp (training school) for two weeks to work on his manners. His status reflects this and will be updated once he has completed his courses. There will be NO adoption event this weekend. The only foster person who would have dogs available is sick and so we are taking this weekend off. Updates... Saturday at PetsMart was a blast, as always. A lot of friends and adopters stopped by. It seemed like we had a crowd all day long and we raised over $100! Thanks to all who stopped by to grab a magnet, donate, inquire about the dogs or just chat. We've been lucky to have such nice and unseasonable weather so that we can set up outside the store. We've kicked the new year off with a brand new web site! Almost everything has been redesigned with a fresh look. The Store is the only section of the site that will retain the old look. Updates...
