UDPATES!: Adoptable Dogs, Calendar, Board, Contact Us.

NEWS!: Please note: We will no longer be using the phone as a means of communication. Any contact must now be done through our email or our contact page on this site.
The events at the South Blvd. PetsMart and at our home location, the Matthews PetsMart (11/04 and 11/18 respectively) went very well! As always, many thanks to all who donated, picked up a magnet and/or other merchandise or just stopped by to talk. Special thanks to Kim Garagiola (who adopted Beauty, now Judy) for her wonderful donation of blankets and quilts to our rescue!
As of November 18th, we will be taking a brief break for the holidays, resuming rescue work and adoption events in 2007. This is reflected on our calendar. The 2007 calendar will be posted after our year-end meeting and large events will be announced as the dates become available.
We will be sending out a request to all of our adopters for holiday photos! All photos received will be posted on a special page here on the site.
To all of our adopters, donors, sponsors and contacts: HAPPY HOLIDAYS from Crossroads Animal Rescue!

UDPATES!: Adoptable & Adopted Dogs! Pictures of Boomer and Griffin are now available on Adoptable along with links to their full bios.

10·30·06

UDPATES!: Acknowledgements, Adoptables, Happy Tales, Store! The Happy Tales page is now called 'Adopted Dogs'. It has been updated to include all adopted Crossroads dogs and Happy Tales will be added for the dogs as reports and pictures become available. The Store has been reworked so that the format matches that of the main pages and the items are a little more organized. Also, new items have been added!

NEWS!: The event at Moosehead Bar & Grill on the 14th was a great success! Acknowledgements and thanks to:
  • Susan C Floyd & Churchill Galleries
  • Michael Pawlyk
  • BIG thanks to Cherri and Jerry Guin
  • All the friends and patrons who stopped by and grabbed a drink (or two!) and/or donated for some of our rescue merchandise
  • And a very SPECIAL thanks to Chris and Allison of Moosehead Grill and to all the staff for their wonderful generosity and assistance. They made the event a success and Moosehead will be going up on our Acknowledgements page as one of our 2006 sponsors.
The adoption event on the 21st was fantastic. (Once again, our apologies to all who showed up at the South Blvd. PetsMart where we had been scheduled.) Our special guest at the last event was Tamara Church from Shelby, NC. She had rescued a litter of four Golden mix pups and had contacted our rescue for assistance in finding them homes. Tamara drove all the way up to Charlotte and was able to find homes that day for all but one of the pups, who was taken in by our rescue (see George in adoptables!).
Homes were also found for the three Crossroads dogs that were at the event: Hannah, LeeLee and Beauty! All three are currently in Foster2Adopt and updates will be made when they've reached the end of their trial periods.

We've acquired two new dogs from CharMeck: Boomer and Griffin. They will be posted on the Adoptables page when they become available.

It has been discussed that Crossroads may be taking a short break for the holidays and will not be holding any adoption events for most of November through the end of December. This has not become official, but a note will be made here and the calendar will be updated if this will be the case.

COMING UP!: Adoption event at the PetsMart on South Blvd. on November 4th! As of now, we are definitely scheduled to be there. If this changes again, we will post an update on this site as soon as we find out.

NEWS!: Gus and Sergeant have found homes! Crossroads has pulled two new fosters within the last week and they will be photographed at our event tomorrow and should be online shortly after.

COMING UP!: Fundraiser at the Mooshead Bar & Grill (1807 Montford Dr. Charlotte, NC 28209) from 3:0 'til 7:00 tomorrow! Don't miss it! The next week we will be holding an adoption event, but will be at the PetsMart on South Blvd.

09·22·06

UDPATES!: Adoptable Dogs and Acknowledgements pages have been updated.

NEWS!: Last Saturday at PetsMart went fairly well! As always, our sincere thanks to those who donated to our Vet Care Fund. We were able to raise over $75! A special thanks to:
  • Dory Mazina who donated a large supply of Blue Buffalo puppy food to the group!
Also, Bella, an large and lovable Pyrenees mix that had recently come into the group was happened upon by a big-dog lover last Saturday and the meeting resulted in her adoption on Wednesday! She is now in her forever home with her new Kuvasz and Borzoi pals and her new mom.

An update on Sarge: His foster mom reports that Sarge is back to his happy, playful self with all outward traces of the kennel cough appearing to have vanished. He will continue on his medication for remainder of the two weeks, but appears to be all but completely recovered after the first round of antibiotics!

COMING UP!: We'll be at the Matthews PetsMart again this weekend (23rd)!

ALSO, mark your calendars for October the 14th! Crossroads will be setting up outside the Moosehead Bar & Grill from 3:00pm 'til 7:00pm with merchandise and adoptable dogs. The proprieter, Chris Neilsen, has been working with our VP of Fundraising and PR and has very generously agreed to let us hold a fundraiser outside and he will be donating 100% of the proceeds of an entire keg of beer to Crossroads. It's going to be lots of fun, so make sure you stop by!

09·16·06

UDPATES!: FIVE new Happy Tales have been added! (Adopters: if you ever see anything that needs to be corrected in your dog's Happy Tale or just wish to make an update or send more pictures, please do so! We love hearing from you.) Several new dogs added to the Adoptable Dogs page. Those without photos will be updated with pics after this weekend. Acknowledgements page updated.

NEWS!: Sergeant (aka Sarge), one of our most recent pulls from the shelter, is sick! He was diagnosed with a nasty case of Bordetella (kennel cough) and is currently being treated for that. He will be on meds for approximately two weeks and so will not be available for a while, but we will definitely be accepting applications on him in the meantime.

Our heartfelt thanks to Elizabeth Richardson and Michael Pawlyk for their recent, generous donation! Elizabeth and Michael are two of our favorite CharMeck volunteers and have helped us out with dogs and passed along information on many occasions!

COMING UP!: Don't forget: Tomorrow is the big National Adoption Weekend at PetsMart and we'll be setting up in the usual spot at the location in Matthews. Hope to see you there!

09·09·06

UDPATES!: Calendar month of September has been updated to reflect our revised schedule, Adoptable Dogs has been updated. More Happy Tales to come!

NEWS!: WE'RE BACK! After a brief hiatus, Crossroads is once again up and running and we are excited! We've already made several trips to CharMeck, have pulled three dogs and placed them into foster homes and are planning on pulling some more in the very near future. Check out our 'Adoptable Dogs' page to the right for more info on our current fosters. The latest two will become adoptable when their one week assessment periods in foster have been completed (no later than next Thursday).
During our break, we did some fundraising, reinforced our relationships with our sponsors and contacts and did some planning and scheduling for events to come. Though we had taken a break from pulling, fostering and adopting out dogs, we were still active behind the scenes, making sure that everything was ready for September, when we planned to start back up, full time.

COMING UP!: Because we normally only hold adoption events every other weekend and because PetsMart's big Fall National Adoption Event fell on one of our off Saturdays, the 16th, we decided to postpone our first event until that day and then resume our schedule as planned, holding another event the following weekend, on the 23rd. So, we will be back at the Matthews PetsMart next Saturday and are planning on setting up outside (weather permitting). We should have anywhere from 3-6 dogs, so we hope you will stop by and see us!

UDPATES!: Names added to the Acknowledgements page, Gallery updated with pictures from ARF Day, Adoptable Dogs updated.
NEWS!: ARF Day was a great success! Crossroads raised over $180 from merchandise sales and from donations. Many thanks to:
  • Marshall & Debbie Congdon - Nikki's mom and dad! They came to visit Nikkie's foster mom at the event and made a generous donation.
  • Laura Fickling of "Crossroads Photography" (704.564.8815). We thought this was a neat coincidence! She made a generous donation towards Kasay's Fund at the event.
  • Valerie Brock - Tia's new mom! She is an artist and donated several beautiful hand-painted items to Crossroads as fundraiser items.
Thanks so much to those listed above and also to all those who made a donation or a purchase! All proceeds will go into our Veterinary Care Fund which we use to pull shelter dogs and provide for them things such as food, flea/tick and heartworm preventatives and any other items or services that are needed to care for them while they are being fostered.

07·28·06

COMING UP!: Tomorrow is ARF Day at Concord Mills Mall! It will run from 12:00noon 'til 4:00pm and will be held in Space 635, in the vacant Mikasa outlet (next to The Gap outlet). Crossroads and quite a few other rescue groups and vendors will be attending (see link for complete list). We hope to see you there!

07·10·06

UPDATES: Names have been added to the Acknowledgements page, updates have been made to the Adoptable Dogs page, Contact page and Calendar.

NEWS: We were able to set up outside at PetsMart this past Saturday and the weather was warm, but there was a nice breeze going. It was a real fun day and our newest addition, a pup called Jagger, was there! We raised over $100 from donations and sales and received several item donations:
  • Dolcie Peake & Susan Odum donated a large bag of Purina One dog food.
  • Linda Clampitt & "Suzie" donated a whole bag of food, treats, toys, collars, harness, etc.
  • Steve and Carol Eyler & "Gracie" donated a large dog crate.
  • Stan & Julie Jahn donated another very nice dog crate.
Our thanks to all of those mentioned above and to those who either donated or purchased one or more of our fundraising items this past Saturday!

COMING UP: Crossroads will be participating in Concord Mills' ARF Day on July 29th. It will be held in Space 635 at the Concord Mills Mall and will run from 12:00pm - 4:00pm. Along with the various pet rescue groups that will be attending, there will be lots of other fun activities going on, including a Build-a-Bear Petting Zoo, a pet-spotlight and more! We will not be holding any other adoption events until the 29th, so be sure and stop by to see us then!

07·05·06

COMING UP: We are planning on being at PetsMart this Saturday from 11:00 'til 4:00. We hope to see you there!

06·20·06

UPDATES: Names added to the acknowledgements page, adoptable dogs have been updated, pictures from the book-signing have been added to the gallery & the calendar has been updated!

NEWS: An update has been made to Kasay's listing on PetFinder.

The Grinning Beagle book-signing was this past Saturday. Valerie raised almost $200 from selling her books and other merchandise and so $40 was donated to Crossroads at the end of the day. Gross raised for the entire day was $76. While the turnout was not quite as large as we had hoped for the book-signing, we met a lot of dog owners and their dogs and had tons of fun with Barbara and her gang. MANY thanks to Valerie for agreeing to hold the signing and for her generous donation to our group and MANY thanks to Barbara for hosting the event and for all she has done for Crossroads.

During the event, one of our fosters, Oscar, went across the street with his foster mom to visit The Bee Man's candle shop and the people there fell in love with him! He is currently staying with them as a Foster-2-Adopt.

COMING UP: We are switching off our adoption weekends and so will be at PetsMart this Saturday from about 10:30 'til 4:30! Be sure and stop by!

06·14·06

UPDATES: Donors' names have been added to the Acknowledgements page. You can now view Happy Tales for Lady and Miracle! New pictures in Henri's Happy Tale.

NEWS: Crossroads recently took in a red Dachshund from the CharMeck shelter called Kasay. When we pulled him, he was, to our knowledge, a perfectly healthy little dog, but after getting him into his foster home, we began to realize there was something very wrong with Kasay's back. What had appeared to shelter workers to be a few scratches from a scuffle with a kennel-mate was actually a terrible infection lying hidden beneath Kasay's shiny red fur and several layers of skin. The "scratches" were places where the infection had begun to break through the skin and reveal itself. The cause is unknown to us and to Kasay's vets, but a poisonous bug bite or perhaps chemical or sun burn is suspected. For photos of Kasay and his journey to recovery and for his full bio and updates, visit his listing on PetFinder. If you wish to become one of Kasay's Angels and help cover his medical expenses, click on 'Donate' in the menu above!

COMING UP: ALSO, don't forget the Valerie Blettner book-signing coming up this Saturday at Barbara's Canine Café from 2:00 'til 4:00!

06·05·06

Once again, another super weekend at PetsMart! Crossroads netted over $120 in sales and donations. Many thanks to all for your fantastic support!

Also, a special thanks to Diane Alexander who graciously agreed to review and advise us on our 501(c)3 paperwork. We are now ready to complete the forms and get them filed with the state!

Lucy and Maggie Mae both went home Saturday with their forever families. They should be moving to the Happy Tales page sometime within the next few weeks.

Another big update: Crossroads has a brand new board member, Mike Gil! He has accepted the position of Board Member at Large and will be the 7th person on the Board of Directors. Mike had previously been volunteering with Crossroads and was present at nearly every event from day one. Congrats, Mike! We're so glad to have you on board!

06·01·06

It's once again adoption weekend at the Matthews PetsMart! This time, we will be focusing on publicizing the big Valerie Blettner book-signing at Barbara's Canine Café, coming up the 17th. We are going to have a special table set up on Saturday, displaying all of the Grinning Beagle products that will be available and will have pre-order forms. We will also have some information and history available on Blettner, the generous and talented author of the featured books, Life is Good Now, as Told by Floyd and That Dog Won't Hunt! All of the Grinning Beagle products are also available for pre-order in our store!

05·22·06

We had another successful weekend at PetsMart! We were able to get all of our gear up outside and, though hot, it was a great day. Buster went to his forever home and we received some interest in Bailey, our little Beagle mix boy. We made nearly $150 in sales and donations. Also, many heartfelt thanks to Beth Charles & "Amber" and to Bill and Pat Lovinggood & "Maggie" for their generous donations of crates and doggie bed to our group! Such wonderful contributions that we are always in need of.

05·17·06

Crossroads will be back at the Matthews PetsMart in Windsor Square this weekend! We are going to try and set up outside again, weather permitting. Come and see us!

Check out our new gallery! Just click on the link in the menu on the right. Also, the store layout has been slightly altered.

Stanley found his forever home this week! Keep an eye on the 'Happy Tales' page, as some new tales will be going up soon!

05·10·06

Wow! Crossroads' first adoption event for PetsMart's National Adoption Weekend was a BIG success! We had five dogs total there and received some great applications on several of them. We were able to raise over $200 in donations and sales of rescue merchandise and, best of all, Miracle found a wonderful new home!

We were able to use all of our super Rally to Rescue gear and our setup looked fantastic! Everyone was decked out in Crossroads' colors and official nametags. Keep an eye out for pictures in the Gallery which is coming soon.

To all who came by our tent on Saturday, whether it was to donate, grab a magnet or bracelet, apply for a dog or just stop and talk, our heartfelt thanks!

04·30·06

Please visit the 'Board' page above for an update on some slight changes in positions. Also, we now have a new mailing address:

Crossroads Animal Rescue
1649 Woodberry Rd.
Charlotte, NC 28212

Again, this is a mailing address, not a shelter location. Crossroads does not work as a shelter-based rescue.

UPDATE on the PetsMart event this weekend:

We plan on being at the Matthews store in Windsor Square and should be setup by 9:00am. The three ADOPTABLE dogs you see on our 'Adoptable Dogs' page will be there. It will be National Adoption Weekend for PetsMart so there are going to be a lot of rescue groups present with their dogs. There will be no better time to adopt than this coming weekend!

04·25·06

Well... many apologies to all those who attended Bark in the Park, but didn't see us there! Make no mistake, Crossroads was set up and waiting, bright and early, but for those of you who came in the afternoon and missed the inclement weather, it was drizzling all that morning and the drizzles turned into a full-blown lightning storm. Due to unfortunate circumstances, we were not able to properly secure our tent, which almost blew away in the high gusts and so all of our material, merchandise and the members got sopping wet. Because of this, we were forced to pack up and leave. Everyone was very sorry to miss out on this great event, we heard everyone had a blast after the sun came out!

In spite of our absence from Bark in the Park, we are definitely planning on being at PetsMart on the weekend of May 6th, which is their BIG, national Pet Adoption weekend. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate for that and are really looking forward to it. It will be our first full-time adoption event ever! Details to be announced.

04·08·06

  • The Charlotte Civitan Club meeting went wonderfully! Lynn Erren, our VP and Director of Adoption Operations was their guest speaker and gave an inspiring presentation about animal neglect and rescue. Questions were fielded afterwards and we have already begun to receive pledges from various Civitan members. Our most sincere thanks to Bill Nuttall and the members of the Charlotte Civitan Club for allowing us to come and speak and for providing lunch for the Crossroads members that attended.

  • Check out our new Happy Tales page!

COMING UP APRIL 22ND...

Crossroads is going to be running a booth at the top-paw canine event that dog owners of Charlotte, Matthews and the surrounding communities look forward to from the beginning of the year... Bark in the Park! It will be held in Ray's Fetching Meadow at McAlpine Creek Park (map) on April 22nd from 10:00am 'til 4:00pm, rain or shine. We will be there with brochures and information about Crossroads and will also have available a lot of the items you see in our store. We look forward to seeing you and your furry companions there!

COMING UP JUNE 17TH...

The meeting begins at 12:30, but anyone attending is encouraged to arrive by 12:15. Contact Micki Fisher at 704.377.9000 for more information.

03·13·06

Our big fundraiser at the Spring Show has ended. Crossroads made over $1,000 in proceeds and, through the show, found a wonderful forever home for one of our first foster dogs, Nicklaus! Many thanks to all who participated and volunteered their time, money and efforts to make this possible. Thanks also to everyone who participated in the raffle! Here are our winners:
