Where can I come see the dogs? Crossroads is a foster-based rescue which means we do not have a shelter facility where the dogs can be viewed. If you wish to meet a dog that you are interested in, you must first fill out an Adoption Application. If your application is accepted, you will then be given the chance to meet and interact with the dog you are interested in. If you would really rather meet the dog before filling out an application, please go to our web site and check our calendar for our next scheduled adoption event. There you may meet the dog and talk with its foster parent. Just be aware that you will be asked to fill out an Adoption Application at the event before you can be considered for adoption.

What do I do if I'm interested in a dog? If you are interested in adopting a dog, please apply for it using our online application.

What is a courtesy listing? A "courtesy listing" (as defined by Crossroads) is a listing for a pet on PetFinder done as a courtesy by a rescue group or shelter for a private rescuer, owner or individual who does not have a PetFinder.com account. The following is true of all pets that Crossroads courtesy lists and is stated at the beginning of each listing:

How can I request that Crossroads courtesy list my pet(s) on PetFinder? If you would like Crossroads to list a pet (or pets) on PetFinder for you, please send us an email at info@crossroadsanimalrescue.com. Include the following in your email:

Or you can fill the form out online here and send us the pictures and vet records separately in an email. Please be aware that the following requirements must be met in order for your pet to be courtesy listed under Crossroads:

Crossroads policy prevents us from placing a pet on PetFinder that is already listed. It can cause confusion as to which group/shelter is really responsible for the dog and where inquiries should be directed for those who are not aware of how courtesy listings work.

Where do you hold your adoption events? Our main locations are the PetsMart stores in Matthews (Windsor Square), Pineville, and the one off of South Tryon. We are always looking for other venues where we can show our dogs, so please see our web site before coming to visit us. A time, date and location will be posted there before each event.

I'd like to surrender my dog into Crossroads Rescue. How do I do that? As a rule, Crossroads does not take in owner surrenders. Generally, if you do send us a request asking to surrender a dog to us (whether it be your own, a friend's/relative's or a stray) or for help placing it, there are four things we can do:

Of the last three, please be aware that we will first ask you to complete this form before crossposting your request or listing the dog. Also remember that a picture is worth a thousand words and we will also be asking you to send us at least one good picture of the dog (more if you wish us to courtesy list it). When you provide all the info/pictures up front when making a request, groups, shelters and rescue individuals are 10 times more likely to try and help you out because they don't have to keep writing you back to request information that should have been given up front. Please do not email or contact us through our form with something like this.

Why do you charge $175 for your dogs? The $175 adoption fee in part covers any shelter pull fees and medical work the dog has had done and is in part a donation to go towards the rescue of another dog. Our expenses for any given dog run--on average--something like this:

In almost all cases we exceed the adoption fee, either because of multiple vet visits or because of the length of time the dog remains in rescue. We believe $175 is nominal compared to the hundreds you would spend at your own vet for the shots, spay/neuter and microchip alone. Not only are you getting a dog that is completely ready to go medically, you're getting one that has been socialized, and worked with extensively as far as house-training, leash-training, basic commands. Also, any personality/behavioral issues the dog may have, have been identified and are being addressed while in foster care.

Aren't you basically just selling me a dog? See above. The $175 adoption fee is exceeded by medical expenses in almost all cases. In addition to any funds invested, we have put a lot of time, effort, love and care into the dogs we adopt out, unlike a lot of the "breeders" operating today. We are a non-profit group and none of our board members, fosters or volunteers receive any remuneration for what they do. Most of our funds are collected through fundraisers and public/corporate donations.

How can I get involved? If you are interested in opening up your home to foster for us, please fill out our online Foster Home Application. The application itself will somewhat explain what is involved in fostering for our group. If you wish to volunteer your time in other ways, please contact us with a specific request for what you would like to do. We are a very small group and have (so far) not had a great need for extra hands, but we've had a lot of offers and are always adding to the list for when we get bigger or have a large event at which we'll need some additional animal lovers to help out!

Does Crossroads euthanize to make room for more dogs? No. We are a foster-based rescue and our dogs remain in foster care until a home is found.

Why did you change your adoption area radius from 2.5 hours to 1 hour? None of our members are reimbursed in any way for their mileage when traveling on rescue business. Due to the rising costs of gas, it has become too costly for our foster members to drive back and forth for home visits and adoption drop-offs when the applicant lives more than an hour out from the Charlotte-Metro area. We have adjusted our adoption area radius to a more manageable distance for our members.
